The long Easter weekend has finally arrived. This means more time to have fun and more time to explore Switzerland!
From the east to the west, Switzerland offers some special Easter activities for families. Our Swiss Easter guide includes everything from watching a natural wonder, experiencing old local traditions, or doing something a bit bizarre… And of course, there are the good, old-fashioned Easter egg hunts.
Get inspired and spend the Easter weekend trying something new in Switzerland!

Aarau: Naturama Museum (March 25 – 28, 10 AM – 5 PM)
The Naturama Museum in Aarau knows how to please Easter fans of all ages. You and your kids will get to witness chicks hatching, can pet bunnies and participate in workshops. For instance, the Landart workshop allows kids to create an Easter themed pictures using leaves, twigs, bark and other natural products.
Free admission for kids below six years of age.

Aathal: Sauriermuseum (March 25 – 28, 10 AM – 6 PM)
Easter is a perfect time to remember that the chickens that provided all those eggs are actually descendants of dinosaurs! Although there will not be any free roaming chickens at the Sauriermuseum in Aathal this Easter, plenty of other activities are sure to captivate your family.
On Friday and Monday from 12 – 3 PM, there is a children’s workshop to assemble and color a wooden dinosaur skeleton. And on Sunday at 2 PM, there will be a guided museum tour. For the detectives among you, there is a scavenger hunt through the museum to collect clues and solve a puzzle.
All activities are included in the museum admission fee.

Basel: Fondation Beyeler (March 25 – 28, 10 AM – 6 PM)
Fondation Beyeler in Basel has prepared some artsy Easter surprises for you. Do not miss the additional Easter weekend “Coucou Bazar” performances where art literally comes alive.
On Sunday, there will be a hunt for ten Easter nests hidden at Berower Park in front of the museum. The museum revealed to us that each basket is filled with goodies from Fondation Beyeler… Save 10 percent on train fares and museum admission using this RailAway special.

Bern: Easter Egg Bashing at Kornhausplatz (March 27, 9 AM – 2 PM)
What do the people of Bern do on Easter Sunday morning? If you go to the Kornhausplatz at 9 AM, you will see an old Bernese tradition: Eiertütschete. All generations will be getting together in a fair and square battle. The goal? To compete for the strongest egg in town!
Bring some boiled eggs of your own and join this Egg Demolition Derby.
Egg Tapping

Bremgarten: Easter Market in the Historic Old Town (March 28, 8 AM – 6 PM)
Touted as one of Switzerland’s biggest Easter markets, the charming old town of Bremgarten has seen this tradition go on for more than 800 years! From 8 AM – 6 PM on Easter Monday, you can expect some 90 merchants selling their Easter themed crafts. On top, there will be special attractions for the kids.

Geneva: Giant Easter Egg Hunt in Plainpalais (March 20, 9 AM)
Starting at 9 AM, there will be an Easter egg hunt in the garden of Villa Freundler. While the kids are busy, enjoy a breakfast starting at 10 AM. There are more than 500 giant chocolate eggs to be found, so get your fair share…

Jona: Easter Egg Hunt and Straw Monuments at Bächlihof (March 25 – 28)
Ready, set, go! The farm at Bächlihof will be hiding eggs all around their grounds this Easter. Once discovered, kids will get to color them at one of the egg painting stations. The farm offers breakfast 365 days of the year, so this Easter will be a perfect chance for your family to enjoy fresh Swiss breads, cheese and homemade jellies!
Jucker Farmart Ostern

Luzern: Natur-Museum (March 24 – April 3, 10 AM – 5 PM)
This must be one of the fluffiest and chirpiest Easter traditions in Switzerland. Natur-Museum Luzern invites you to a natural spectacle – seeing baby chicks hatch from their egg shells. They are “scheduled” to hatch on Saturday, March 26, but you can surely see their slightly older siblings pecking around on other days during and after the Easter break.

Lausanne/Ouchy: Easter Mosaic and Market (Place de la Navigation, March 25 – 27)
At the harbor in Ouchy, there will be festivities dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the Société Vaudoise de Navigation. Admission is free, and at a special fundraiser for AEFEC, colored eggs can be purchased at 1 franc each. When assembled, all the donated eggs will create a gigantic Easter mosaic, supporting this organization that enables families to join their children during a hospital stay.

Lugano: Pasqua in Città Easter Festival (March 25 – 28, 11 AM – 6 PM)
Easter is coming to Lugano this weekend, and the locals have thought up a fun entertainment program. The main squares hold about 100 stalls where it is be possible to try and purchase many local specialties such as foods, wine and crafts. The pedestrian area is dedicated to various street and musical performances, and the little ones will not be forgotten, either: Twice a day, there will be an Easter egg hunt for families at the lakeside Parco Ciani.

Mendrisio: Historical Easter Processions (March 24 – 25)
The Easter processions in Mendrisio have hundreds of years of history, and they are still making their way through the old town during the week before Easter. The atmosphere is one of a kind, with the streets being illuminated only by the soft glow of transparenti lanterns. As a way of representing the crucifixion of Christ, the roughly 700 people in the parade are dressed in historic costumes such as Roman soldiers or various biblical figures.

Montreux: Polymanga Anime Convention (March 25 – 27 from 10 AM – 8:30 PM, March 28 from 10 AM – 6:30 PM)

Nyon: Easter Market and Exhibit (March 19 – 20 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM)
On Saturday and Sunday, Nyon will host its Easter market and exhibit. You can expect local specialties and crafts, activities for children, as well as a special exhibition featuring decorated Easter eggs which will surprise you with its dizzying colorfulness. Admission is 7 francs.

Nyon: Decorated Easter Fountains (March 19 – April 3)
Aa part of an old custom, the pretty lakeside town of Nyon is turning its public water fountains into Easter monuments. For a couple of weeks every year, local clubs volunteer to decorate their town and get it ready for spring. You could combine the Easter market and exhibit with a stroll through the historic old town to see these beautified fountains with colorful ribbons, twigs, flowers and eggs.
As a bonus for out of town visitors, the monthly flea market will be held on Easter Sunday.

Zürich: Playing Zwänzgerle, a traditional Easter custom in Zürich (March 28, 10 AM)
Being the business center of Switzerland, even Zurich’s egg bashing tradition literally involves throwing money around. Zwänzgerle works as follows: At the Rüdenplatz on Easter Monday, children would hold a colored egg in their hands while adults would toss a 20 Rappen coin at it, trying to make the egg crack.
If the coin sticks, the thrower gets both the egg and the money. If they miss, the kid gets to keep both.
